Scrum
Client: BFI Network / Dir: Kate Graham
Role: Composer
Brief:
Score a bold short about a defiant girl who insists on playing rugby, against the will of her mother. Set in Leeds, the story moves between physical grit and emotional tenderness - a coming-of-age clash wrapped in mud, memory, and muscle.
What We Did:
We built the score around tension and release - distorted cello drones, fractured rhythms, and breathy woodwinds echoing the quiet rebellion at the film’s core. Every cue was designed to move with the character’s body and inner world. Grit meets grace.
Outcome:
Scrum was selected for over a dozen international festivals including Aesthetica, Leeds, Cardiff, and Barcelona. Critics praised its visceral tone - and the music was singled out for deepening the emotional weight and sense of place.
